Set Designer uses Vectorworks to create scenes for award-winning TV show 24

Anyone who watches “24” knows that it’s one of the most innovative and acclaimed dramas on television. For season eight the setting was moved to New York City, and the story revolves around a peace treaty in the United Nations. The set designers were faced with the challenge of creating three new sets: The CTU (Counter Terrorism Unit), the United Nations assembly rooms, and the United Nations apartment building.

During 5-6 weeks of designing, the team developed 3D models using Vectorworks and SketchUp. “Creating the 3D models and using Vectorworks’ viewports helped us to produce over 250 working drawings which were used to build these elaborate sets,” explains set designer Marco Miehe. “Changes were made constantly to the designs (due to the evolving scripts), but working with Vectorworks made it extremely efficient to make changes in the design quickly and easily.”

Congratulations to the talented team of Carlos Barbosa (Production Designer), Marco Miehe (Set Designer), Cameron Bernie (Set Designer), Ron Yates (Set Designer), and Amy Maier (Assistant Art Director) for creating a fantastic backdrop to this action-packed show.
