Vectorworks in Afghanistan

Posted by Lisa Lance on 4/27/10 11:08 AM

Greg Pitcher, AIA, is an architect working for the United States Air Force. He's stationed with the 577th Prime Base Expeditionary Engineering Force and designs and plans facilities for new troops arriving on base at Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan.

A Vectorworks user for more than 20 years (since MiniCAD 1), Greg currently uses the Vectorworks 2010 Architect and Designer programs with Renderworks. He identified an interest to learn about the software in others at the base and recently formed a user group to share his knowledge. The group consists of 18 to 20 people and has members from the U.S. Air Force, Army, Marines, and even a couple of Afghan nationals. Although the group is just getting started, the users are eager to learn. "All members are new and they want to learn the 3D mostly," he said. "But I tell them all, even 3D in Vectorworks takes a little time."

The group diligently meets twice a month in Greg's office, which is located in an old Russian office building. "My biggest challenge is having to use my laptop to show everyone Vectorworks," he said, explaining that he isn't able to install the software on military computers because of security restrictions.

Thanks, Greg, for sharing your enthusiasm for Vectorworks - even in the most challenging of circumstances.
