There's never a dull moment here at Vectorworks. Dr. Biplab Sarkar, a Vectorworks employee for more than 16 years who has driven the development of our software as chief technology officer (CTO) for eight of those years, has been appointed to chief executive officer (CEO). In other company promotion news, Darick DeHart is now vice president of product management and Steve Johnson is now vice president of product development. The three executives will work closely together in their new roles to pursue future technology advancements for the Vectorworks software lines.
The Vectorworks 2016 software line, released in English back in September of 2015, has been doing some serious globetrotting over the past few months. After releasing versions in Dutch, French, German, Polish, Italian, Norwegian, Spanish, and Portuguese over the past few months, the more than 100 new features and updates made available in this release are now available in Japanese and Chinese.

An English version of SimTread 2, a pedestrian simulation program, is now available as a plug-in exclusively for Vectorworks 2014 software. Developed through a partnership between A&A Co. Ltd., Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan, and Takenaka Corporation, SimTread lets you simulate and analyze crowd movement and plan evacuations using tools that integrate into projects you’ve already designed. The plug-in works for both Mac and Windows.
Siemens PLM Software is expanding its portfolio of open technologies and partnerships, and on November 6, the company will hold a free webinar to demonstrate how AEC vendors that partner with Siemens PLM Software and license its PLM Components are able to integrate advanced geometric modeling capabilities and improve interoperability between different applications.
A billion files are uploaded to Dropbox every day, so if you're in the cloud, we'd wager you're one of the 100 million people who use the file-storage solution. And do we have good news for you! Today's release of Vectorworks Nomad 2.5 includes integration with Dropbox, so Vectorworks users can connect their Dropbox accounts to Vectorworks Cloud Services and access Dropbox files from their mobile application. Vectorworks Cloud Services can also now process VWX files that are stored within a Dropbox account and generate PDFs.
