Last week, members of the Nemetschek North America team traveled to sunny Miami for the AIA 2010 National Convention.
Our theme at the Vectorworks booth was "openBIM" - the use of open, international, non-proprietary standards, such as IFC and PDF, to exchange Building Information Modeling data between participants in their applications - and we offered an "openBIM Champion" contest for show attendees. Participants were asked to answer a series of questions to test their knowledge of BIM and interoperability. For AIA members who weren't able to attend the show in person, we offered a virtual challenge online.
We'd like to congratulate Daniel Benjamin of db Atelier LLC, our openBIM champion, and Robert Dupree of Gromatzky Dupree & Associates, our virtual champion! Both winners will receive Vectorworks Architect 2010 software. The openBIM Champion contest was also part of the AIA National Associates Committee scavenger hunt. Congrats to Nicole Shumaker of ENG Studios for taking top prize in this year's event!
Visitors to our booth had the opportunity to attend presentations on openBIM, as well as topics including BIM in Perspective and Evolving from CAD to BIM. NNA also featured a special presentation from our sister company, Nemetschek Scia, on the topic of Integrating Architecture and Engineering. Scia Engineer software is one of the world's premier 3D structural design and analysis tools. "The feedback from Vectorworks Architect users was tremendous," said Dan Monaghan, Managing Director of Nemetschek Scia. "'We can't wait to share Scia with our engineers' was a common response after watching the Scia Engineer presentation."
