Although it's seven weeks into the NFL season, we’re still dazzled by the impressive stage that Performance Environment Design Group (PEDG) created for this year’s NFL Kickoff event at the home of the 2013 Super Bowl champions, the Baltimore Ravens. If you happened to be one of the 25.1 million people who watched the nationally televised event on September 5, you enjoyed memorable performances by Grammy Award-winning country star Keith Urban and country newcomer Danielle Bradbery on a floating stage barge in the city’s historic Inner Harbor.
PEDG takes pride in creating events that are located in unusual or challenging environments, so the site and its natural abundance of water became a main focus of the show. To achieve their goal, PEDG consulted with a local shipyard for insight into working with barges.
Another component behind the successful design was PEDG's use of Vectorworks Designer software. For example, incorporating worksheets into their designs helped them organize equipment lists and the program’s artistic render modes helped to display high-quality camera shots for the event director.
PEDG strives to blend shows seamlessly into their surroundings by incorporating their natural setting. With this year's event, that's exactly what they did, making it the third most-watched NFL Kickoff in its history and the eleventh time the award-winning firm was hired to design it.
