This month our engineering team has wrapped up a few very important service pack updates. The second Service Pack for the Vectorworks 2012 product line contains a number of fixes, especially in exporting files to DXF/DWG, PDF, and older versions of Vectorworks software. In addition, this Service Pack addresses different issues in the areas of symbols, columns, and wall joins.
Last week (June 13-17), we asked members of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD), both online and those attending the 2011 APLD International Design Conference, to share their thoughts regarding either best practices for using CAD or concerns about making the switch from hand drawing to CAD. Participants posted their comments to the Vectorworks-CAD Software LinkedIn group and to the Vectorworks Facebook page. A&A Co., Ltd. our Japanese distributor, is offering emergency support and services for reconstruction efforts related to the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
Our Architecture Industry Specialist, Luis Ruiz, visited the Dominican Republic earlier this month to assist the team at CAEDRO (our distributor in the Caribbean) with their participation in the XIV National Encounter of Schools and Faculties of Architecture (ENEFA) at the Catholic and Technologic University of Cibao (UCATECI) in the city of La Vega Real. The event brought students and teachers together to participate in cultural activities, discussions of architecture themes, and an exhibition of student projects from all 13 schools of architecture in the Dominican Republic. The University of Puerto Rico was also invited to participate.

Last week, ComputerWorks GmbH, our Vectorworks distributor in Germany, participated in BAU 2011. With approximately 238,000 attendees from 150 countries, BAU is billed as "the World's Leading Trade Fair for Architecture, Materials, Systems", and this year's event was held January 17-22 at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre in Munich, Germany. The themes were sustainability, building for life, research and innovation, and education and training. In addition to product exhibits, BAU included lectures, forums, award presentations, and the official launch of the Archi-World Academy global competition for architecture students.
Theater students and teachers from southwest New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Washington D.C., northern Virginia, West Virginia, and Ohio gathered at Towson University in Towson, Maryland, the week of January 10 for the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF Region 2, Festival 43). Our very own lighting industry expert and software engineer Kevin Linzey was invited to give a presentation on Vectorworks 2011 and Lightwright 5. Another industry veteran, Kevin Lee Allen, set designer and author of the 2010 and 2011 Vectorworks Spotlight Getting Started Guides, gave presentations on "Vectorworks for Students", "Vectorworks for Faculty", and "Using Visual Metaphor in Design".
