Good news! Vectorworks 2017 Service Pack 5 is available and, with this update, the software is now compatible with macOS 10.13 High Sierra.
If you haven’t picked up a copy of Live Design’s July issue yet, you can find the digital edition online. We love reading about how Vectorworks software benefits our users, and we were thrilled to see the article by Lighting Designer and Vectorworks user Allan Nathan, in which he discusses some of his favorite tools in Vectorworks 2017.
From a young age, Natali Arco was drawn to the stage. Growing up she dreamed of becoming an actress and being in the spotlight, until she realized she was more interested in being behind the scenes, rather than at center stage.

For Scott Barnes, lighting console programmer and owner of i-light design, the movie “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” is more than a beloved classic from the 80s — it was the catalyst that led to an illustrious career designing 2D plots and 3D models of movie sets. “After I saw ‘ET’ at 10 years old, I realized how fascinated I was with motion pictures,” said Barnes. “I started following filmmakers, got an 8-millimeter movie camera, and began experimenting with filmmaking. Lighting logically followed, and I got my first job offer as a tech guy for a movie with George C. Scott before graduating high school.”

The majority of the new and improved features in each version of Vectorworks software are based on user suggestions, but the impact of user input doesn’t stop there. Vectorworks has a team of beta testers from within the design industry who explore new features in the software before it’s released each year, informing us of how to improve key functionalities. We’re extremely grateful for all of their hard work, and according to beta tester Ion Webster, the feeling is mutual.
