A Research-Based Workflow for Lighting Design

Aired June 13, 2024

Jazz Hutsby, lighting designer and technician, has a wealth of experience working on theatre, live music, and corporate events. His newest passion, though? Researching the use of 3D models, assets, and digital techniques within the arts.

In this webinar, Hutsby will share how Vectorworks software offered solutions for his work on the Creative Informatics Challenge Project for the Edinburgh International Festival. He’ll also discuss LiDAR scanning, modeling, and MVR.

Digitally Crafting a Box of Trees: Squam Lake House Case Study

Aired June 18, 2024 | Approved for one AIA LU HSW

Alchemy’s Squam Lake house is a practical case study in selecting and using digital modeling tools to design complex geometries, communicating intent, and achieving their practical execution.

The house is metaphorically a box of trees. With an interior entirely of oak, it embraces the spirit of the densely wooded site. The metaphoric trees bring in light and ventilation while defining spaces, circulation, storage, and a separate boathouse. The house was digitally modeled using BIM software, allowing the house’s envelope and tree forms to be CNC-fabricated. The BIM and scripted algorithm process and the transfer and communication of this information to fabricators will be discussed during this course.

Lighting Non-Traditional Spaces with Vectorworks

Aired June 26, 2024

Not all performances you light will take place on a festival mainstage or a large theatre.

For example, senior lighting designer Anne Dresbach at VDA helped put on Theremin Vignettes and Not Eye, Us in spaces that were more rehearsal hall than your typical theatre.

Join Dresbach on June 26 to learn how the designer uses Vectorworks Spotlight to light memorable performances — regardless of venue.

Digital Designs for Residential Landscapes

Aired June 27, 2024 | Approved for one APLD CEU

Follow the digital design process of RootBound, a high-end residential design studio, from surveying all the way through rendered models. This comprehensive webinar will give you a complete overview of the digital workflows RootBound uses to create stunning designs.

The webinar will conclude with real-world examples, illustrating the power of digital design workflows.
